Getting the EPUB onto your Kindle

Kindles read EPUB files that arrive through Amazon's Send to Kindle. Pick whichever of its three routes suits you.

  1. Email

Attach the EPUB to an email to your Kindle's Send to Kindle address, sent from an address on your approved list. The email route stops at 50 MB.
  2. The Send to Kindle app

Install Amazon's Send to Kindle app on your computer and drag the EPUB into it.
  3. Amazon's website

Upload the EPUB on Amazon's Send to Kindle page while signed in to your Amazon account.

Copying the EPUB to a Kindle over USB doesn't work, because Kindles can't open EPUB files copied that way. For a Kobo or another e-reader, copying over USB is fine. Step by step: how to send manga to your Kindle by email.

Why a Kindle needs an EPUB, not a CBZ

Kindles don't open CBZ files, and Amazon's Send to Kindle turns them away. It does accept EPUB, so a CBZ, a ZIP or a folder of pages has to become an EPUB before it can reach a Kindle.

This converter builds a fixed-layout EPUB: one page image per screen, in the order of your files. Plain white borders are trimmed, each page is fitted to 1072 x 1448 in grayscale, and wide two-page spreads are turned sideways so they fill the screen. Pages turn right to left, like printed manga.

There's nothing to install, and it works on a phone too. For pages made for your exact Kindle and sent to it for you, a MangaSendr account does the conversion and the delivery in one step.
