Read your Humble or Fanatical manga bundle on a Kindle
How to download a DRM-free manga or comics bundle from Humble Bundle or Fanatical, which format to pick, and how to get every volume onto your Kindle. With recent bundles and a volume we tested end to end.
Humble Bundle and Fanatical regularly sell manga and comics in bundles: dozens of volumes from one publisher at a fraction of their usual price. On Humble, part of the money goes to charity. The files are DRM-free, so they're yours to keep and read on any device.
A Kindle can't open most of them as they come, though. Comic archives (CBZ) aren't supported at all, and PDFs show small pages with white borders. This guide covers downloading a bundle, picking the right format, and getting every volume onto a Kindle, with or without MangaSendr.
Recent manga bundles
Bundles run for a few weeks and then close, so this list will always be a little out of date. Check the store for what is live: Humble Bundle's book bundles and Fanatical's book and comic bundles. Bundles you've already bought stay downloadable from your account after they end.

Both stores also run Western comics bundles from publishers such as Image, IDW and Valiant. Everything below works for those too.
A tested example: Fire Force from "Manga 2 Anime"
Kodansha's Manga 2 Anime bundle ran on Humble Bundle in June 2019, with volumes of Fire Force, Attack on Titan, The Quintessential Quintuplets and other series. Each volume came in several formats.
We sent Fire Force volume 1 from it to a Kindle in all three formats it came in: CBZ, EPUB and PDF. All three gave the same 194 pages in the same order. The volume was too big for one email, so it arrived as 3 parts, each with its own cover and a "(1 of 3)" style name.
Which format to pick
When a bundle offers several formats, pick CBZ. A CBZ is just the page images in order, which is exactly what a converter needs.
When there's no CBZ, as in the two Fanatical bundles above:
- PDF keeps the publisher's page order by design. MangaSendr renders each page at your Kindle's resolution, so a PDF with good-quality scans looks about as sharp as a CBZ.
- EPUB usually works too, and it gave identical results in our Fire Force test. MangaSendr reads the page images from an EPUB in file-name order, which matches the reading order in most comic EPUBs but not all of them. Check the first few pages of the first volume you send.
Skip the MOBI files some older bundles include. Send to Kindle stopped accepting MOBI in 2022.
Step 1: Download the files
From Humble Bundle
- Sign in and open your Library on humblebundle.com. The purchase email also links straight to the download page.
- Find the bundle. Each volume has a button for each format it comes in.
- Click CBZ for each volume you want.
From Fanatical
- Sign in and open your order history.
- Open the order for the bundle. Each item lists the formats it comes in, with a download for each.
- Pick one format per volume. Fanatical can also give you every file in one format at once, which may arrive as a ZIP archive.
Step 2: Unzip the download, not the volumes
A .cbz file is already a single volume. It's a ZIP of page images with a different name, so don't unzip it. The same goes for .epub and .pdf files.
If the store gave you a .zip that holds several .cbz, .epub or .pdf files, extract that archive first, then send each volume file on its own. A converter treats a ZIP as one volume of page images, so a ZIP full of other files won't convert.
Step 3: Send the volumes to your Kindle
First, make sure your Kindle is set up to receive files: you need its @kindle.com address and the sender on Amazon's Approved Personal Document E-mail List. The new Kindle setup guide walks through both.
With MangaSendr
We make MangaSendr, so here's how it works with a bundle:
- Approve
delivery@mangasendr.comin Amazon's Personal Document Settings. - In the web app, drop your volumes (CBZ, EPUB or PDF, up to 500 MB each and up to 50 files at once) and pick your Kindle. They're sent one after another, in order.
- For a Western comic, choose Left to right (comics) under Reading direction before you send. Manga stays right to left.
- MangaSendr sizes every page for your Kindle model, splits the volume into parts if it's too big for one email, and emails it to your Kindle.
If you'd rather not open the website for every new volume, the desktop app can watch a folder and send new CBZ, EPUB or PDF files you put in it. Watched folders always use right-to-left order, so use the web app for Western comics.
Your first delivery is free. Pricing covers what's included after that.
Without MangaSendr
KCC (Kindle Comic Converter) is free, open source and has a profile for every Kindle. It converts a CBZ or PDF on your computer into a Kindle-ready file, which you then copy over USB or send with Amazon's Send to Kindle page. It has many more settings than MangaSendr and handles long webtoon strips too. If you don't mind a desktop tool, it's a great option.
Comics and color
- Reading direction. Manga turns right to left, and Western comics turn left to right. Whatever tool you use, set the direction per volume so page turns feel natural.
- Color. On a Kindle Colorsoft or Scribe Colorsoft, color pages stay in color. On a black-and-white Kindle they're converted to grayscale, which works well for most manga and less well for fully colored comics.
- Big pages. Comic pages are larger than manga pages, so text can be small on a 6-inch Kindle. A 7-inch Paperwhite or Colorsoft is more comfortable, and the 11-inch Scribe shows comic pages close to print size.
FAQ
Are Humble Bundle and Fanatical manga legal?
Yes. Both stores sell these bundles in partnership with the publishers, such as Kodansha, ABLAZE and Medibang. The files are DRM-free so you can read them on any device you own.
Why does my bundle volume arrive in several parts?
Amazon's Send-to-Kindle email accepts attachments up to 50 MB, and a full manga volume is often bigger. MangaSendr splits it into parts that each fit in one email, named like "(1 of 3)", and gives every part its own cover.
Can I send a whole bundle at once?
Yes. Drop up to 50 files at once in the web app and they're sent one after another, in order. The desktop app's watched folder also picks up every new file you put in the folder, about once an hour while it's running.
The bundle only has PDF. Will it look good?
Usually, yes. Each page is rendered as an image at your Kindle's resolution, so a PDF with good scans looks as sharp as a CBZ. If a PDF looks soft, check whether the store also offers a high-resolution PDF.
