Set up a new Kindle for manga
How to set up a new Kindle for manga: find its Send-to-Kindle address, approve the senders that deliver your files, pick the right page size for your model, and where to get manga you can read on it legally.
A new Kindle reads manga from the Kindle Store as soon as you sign in. Manga files you already own are a different story. DRM-free volumes from a bundle or a publisher's store need a few minutes of setup before they show up on the device.
This guide walks through that setup for every current Kindle, including the 7-inch Paperwhite and Colorsoft Amazon announced in October 2026. You only do most of it once.
Check which Kindle you have
Your Amazon account lists every registered Kindle by model under Manage Your Content and Devices > Devices. Here's how the current models compare for manga:
| Kindle | Screen | Page size for converted manga |
|---|---|---|
| Kindle (6-inch, 2022 or newer, including the 2026 model) | 6", black and white | 1072 x 1448 |
| Kindle Paperwhite (2024 or newer, including Signature Editions) | 7", black and white | 1272 x 1696 |
| Kindle Colorsoft (2024 or newer, including Signature Editions) | 7", color | 1272 x 1696, in color |
| Kindle Scribe (3rd generation) | 11", black and white | 1986 x 2648 |
| Kindle Scribe Colorsoft | 11", color | 1986 x 2648, in color |
| Kindle Scribe (2022 or 2024) | 10.2", black and white | 1860 x 2480 |
| Kindle Paperwhite (2021) | 6.8", black and white | 1236 x 1648 |
The page size is what a converter should resize each page to. Pages that match the screen look sharper and turn faster. These are the sizes MangaSendr uses. The 2026 Paperwhite and Colorsoft ship on October 28, so we treat them like the 2024 7-inch models until we've checked one in person, and the 11-inch Scribe size follows the profile KCC uses for it.
Black-and-white manga looks great on every one of these. A Colorsoft keeps color pages in color, which suits color manga, webtoons and Western comics.
Step 1: Finish setting up the Kindle
Connect the Kindle to Wi-Fi and sign in with your Amazon account during the on-screen setup. Send to Kindle only delivers to a Kindle that's registered to your account. If the Kindle was a gift that's already registered to someone else's account, deregister it in the device settings and sign in with yours.
Step 2: Find your Send-to-Kindle email address
Every Kindle has its own email address ending in @kindle.com. Files emailed to it end up in your Kindle library.
- Sign in at amazon.com on a computer or in your phone's browser.
- Open Account & Lists > Manage Your Content and Devices.
- Go to Preferences > Personal Document Settings.
- Under Send-to-Kindle E-Mail Settings, find the address next to your new Kindle.
You can also open the Devices tab, click your Kindle and look for Send-to-Kindle Email in the device summary. The address is per device, so an old Kindle and a new one have different addresses. You can edit it to something easier to type.
Step 3: Approve the senders
This is the step people miss. Amazon only accepts emails from addresses on your Approved Personal Document E-mail List, and it drops everything else without a bounce or an error.
- In the same Personal Document Settings section, find Approved Personal Document E-mail List.
- Click Add a new email address.
- Type the full address that will send files, then click Add Address.
Add your own email address if you'll email files yourself. If you use a service that sends files for you, add its sending address too. MangaSendr sends from delivery@mangasendr.com. Since April 2025, Amazon only accepts complete addresses, so adding just @example.com no longer works.
Step 4: Get your files into a format the Kindle takes
Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and PDF, but not the CBZ and CBR files most comics come in. PDFs open, but a page that doesn't match the screen leaves you with small panels and white borders. For manga, the best result is a fixed-layout EPUB with every page resized for your model and set to turn right to left.
You have a few options:
- KCC (Kindle Comic Converter) is a free, open-source desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux with a profile for every Kindle. It's the most flexible option if you don't mind installing software.
- Amazon's own Send to Kindle page and apps take EPUB and PDF files up to 200 MB, bigger than email allows. They don't convert comic archives.
- MangaSendr, which we make, does the conversion and the email for you. Drop a CBZ, EPUB or PDF you own in your browser, pick your Kindle and send it. Your first delivery is free, and pricing covers what's included after that.
Two limits apply whichever route you pick. A Send-to-Kindle email can carry up to 50 MB, and a full manga volume is often bigger, so it has to be split into parts. And a Western comic needs left-to-right page order: in MangaSendr, choose Left to right (comics) under Reading direction when you upload it.
Step 5: Send a file and check it arrived
Send one volume first. Most files show up within a few minutes. If it doesn't appear in your library, swipe down from the top of the Kindle's screen, tap Sync and give it a minute.
If nothing arrives after that, check these in order:
- The sending address is on the approved list, spelled exactly right.
- You used the
@kindle.comaddress of the new Kindle, not an old one. - The file was under 50 MB, or it was split into parts.
Where to get manga you can read on it
Everything above works with files you own. Here are legal places to get them.
- The Kindle Store. Amazon merged Comixology into the Kindle Store in 2023, so much of the licensed English manga is there. These books are usually locked to Kindle devices and apps, and they don't need any of the setup above.
- DRM-free bundles. Humble Bundle and Fanatical regularly run manga and comics bundles with publishers such as Kodansha, ABLAZE and Medibang. Each runs for a few weeks, and the files are yours to keep in PDF, EPUB and sometimes CBZ. Our bundle guide lists recent ones and explains how to get a whole bundle onto a Kindle.
- Publisher and creator stores. J-Novel Club sells many of its manga and light novels to members as DRM-free EPUBs, so check each title's page. Some publishers and many independent creators sell DRM-free files on their own sites or on itch.io, and Panel Syndicate sells DRM-free comics at a price you choose.
- Free and openly licensed comics. Pepper&Carrot by David Revoy is a full-color webcomic released under a Creative Commons license, with every episode free to download.
Whatever you buy, look for "DRM-free" on the product page. A file with DRM can't be converted for a Kindle.
If you're giving a Kindle to someone who reads manga or comics, you can also give MangaSendr as a gift from November 22 to December 24.
FAQ
Can a Kindle open CBZ files?
No. Kindles don't open CBZ or CBR files, and Send to Kindle won't accept them. Convert them to EPUB first with KCC, MangaSendr or a similar tool.
Do I need a computer to set this up?
No. Steps 2 and 3 work in a phone browser on amazon.com. KCC needs a computer, but MangaSendr works in a phone browser too.
Do I need to redo this if I already had a Kindle?
The approved sender list belongs to your Amazon account, so senders you approved before still work. The @kindle.com address belongs to each device, so use the new Kindle's address, and update it in any service that sends files for you.
Why didn't my manga arrive?
Almost always because the sender isn't on the Approved Personal Document E-mail List, or because the file went to an old Kindle's address. Amazon drops unapproved emails without telling you. Check both, then send the file again.
