Getting started
What is MangaSendr?
MangaSendr is a web app that turns the manga and comic files you already have into EPUBs sized for your Kindle model and emails them to your Kindle. It works in any browser, including on a phone, so there's nothing to install. An optional Mac and Windows app adds a watched folder and USB copying.
Where does the manga come from?
From you. MangaSendr doesn't sell, host or find manga. It works on files you already have, like the DRM-free volumes in Humble Bundle and Fanatical bundles, comics from DRM-free stores, or pages you scanned from books you own. When you send a file, you confirm you have the right to convert and send it.
How long does setup take?
A few minutes, and you only do it once. You make a free account, add MangaSendr's sending address to the approved list in your Amazon settings, add your Kindle's Send to Kindle address and pick your model. A free 5-page test file then lands on your Kindle so you can see it works.
How long until a volume shows up on my Kindle?
Usually within a few minutes. Converting takes up to a minute depending on the file size, then Amazon delivers the email to your Kindle. Amazon doesn't always deliver right away, so give it up to 10 minutes before you check anything.
Files and formats
Which file formats can I send?
CBZ, ZIP, image-based EPUB, PDF, and JPG, PNG or WebP images. CBR files work when they are a ZIP archive inside. Each file can be up to 500 MB, and you can send up to 50 files at once. Each image file becomes its own book, so zip a chapter's pages into one file first.
Can I send a CBR file?
Yes, when the CBR is a ZIP archive inside, which many are. A CBR that is a RAR archive has to be extracted and zipped again first. After that it works like a CBZ.
Do EPUB files work?
Image-based comic EPUBs work. MangaSendr takes the page images out of the EPUB in file-name order, which matches the reading order in most comic EPUBs. Text EPUBs, like novels, don't work, because they have no page images to size for your screen.
Will a PDF look sharp on my Kindle?
Usually, yes. Each PDF page is rendered at high resolution first and then sized for your Kindle, so the lettering stays crisp. A PDF made from low-quality scans will still look like those scans.
Can I send a whole series at once?
Yes. Pick up to 50 files in one go and they are sent one after another, in order. Each volume gets a cover made from its first page and a title that sorts in order on your Kindle.
Do pages turn right to left?
Yes, right to left is the default, like printed manga. For Western comics, choose left to right when you upload in the web app. The free converter always builds right-to-left books.
What happens to two-page spreads?
A page that is wider than it is tall is turned sideways so it fills the screen. Turn your Kindle to read it. MangaSendr doesn't cut spreads in half.
Does it work with webtoons?
When the chapter is already cut into page-height images, yes. Zip the images and each one becomes a page on your Kindle. MangaSendr doesn't slice one long vertical strip into pages.
Kindle and Amazon
Which Kindles does it work with?
Kindles that receive documents by Send to Kindle email. MangaSendr has page sizes for the 6-inch Kindle, every Paperwhite since 2015, the Oasis (2017 to 2019), the Colorsoft, the 10.2-inch and 11-inch Scribe and the Scribe Colorsoft. You pick your model once and every page is sized for it.
Why do I have to approve an address on Amazon?
Amazon only delivers documents to your Kindle from email addresses you have approved. You add delivery@mangasendr.com once to the Approved Personal Document E-mail List, under Preferences, Personal Document Settings in your Amazon account. Any tool that emails files to a Kindle needs this step.
My volume didn't arrive. What should I check?
First check that delivery@mangasendr.com is on your Approved Personal Document E-mail List on Amazon. Then make sure your Kindle is on Wi-Fi and sync it from the menu at the top of the screen. Give it up to 10 minutes. If your free delivery never arrives, press "Not yet" in the app and you get it back once. If it still isn't there, email contact@mangasendr.com.
Why did my volume arrive in several parts?
Amazon's Send to Kindle email takes up to 50 MB per message, and a full volume is often bigger. MangaSendr splits it into as many parts as it needs, each small enough for one email. Every part has its own cover and a name like "(1 of 3)", so the parts sit in order.
Where do sent volumes show up on my Kindle?
In your Kindle library, under Documents. Amazon files everything that arrives by Send to Kindle email there, so your volumes sit apart from the books you bought in the Kindle Store.
Does color work on a Kindle Colorsoft?
Yes. On a Kindle Colorsoft or Scribe Colorsoft, pages keep their color. Black-and-white Kindles get greyscale pages with a contrast boost, which is on by default and can be turned off in Settings.
Does it work with a Kobo?
MangaSendr emails Kindles only, but you can save a volume as an EPUB or CBZ and copy it to a Kobo, a Boox or another e-reader. In the web app, choose Save as file instead of Send to Kindle. The free converter does the same without an account, 3 times a day. Both take CBZ, ZIP and image files. The CBZ keeps the original pages and their color, and the EPUB's pages are one 6-inch Kindle size, in greyscale.
Pricing and refunds
Is MangaSendr free?
Your first real delivery is free, even a whole volume, and you don't need a card. The 5-page test file doesn't count toward it. The free converter also does 3 conversions a day without an account, and a free account can save 2 files as EPUB or CBZ. To keep sending after your free volume, you need the $29 license or the $4.99 monthly plan.
What do I get for $29?
One payment covers sending as many volumes as you like from any browser, a whole series in one go, automatic splitting for big volumes, the Mac and Windows app sending new files from a folder, saving files as EPUB or CBZ as often as you like, and every v2 update. Delivery to your Kindle is included, for personal use up to 300 deliveries a month.
What does "Lifetime of v2.x" mean?
The license covers version 2 of MangaSendr and every v2 update, features and fixes included. A future version 3 may be sold separately. Version 2 keeps working for as long as MangaSendr runs it, and the volumes you've sent stay on your Kindle.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 14 days of buying the $29 license. Email us and you get a full refund, which ends the license. The $4.99 monthly plan has no refund window, but you can cancel it anytime and keep access until the end of the month you paid for.
What if the price goes down after I buy?
If the standard US price of the license goes down within 90 days of your purchase, we refund the difference automatically.
Your files and privacy
What happens to my files?
A file you send is deleted within 24 hours, and a file you never send within an hour. Files you convert to download are deleted from the server within minutes. Your history keeps a small cover, the title and the page count of each send.
Does anyone else see my files?
No. Your files are private to your account. They are passed to Amazon Web Services only to send the email to your Kindle, and they aren't shared with anyone else.
Desktop app
What does the desktop app do?
It watches a folder on your computer and, about once an hour, sends new CBZ, ZIP or EPUB files to your Kindle. It can also convert files and copy them to a Kindle over USB. It runs on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and on Windows 10 or 11, and it signs in with your MangaSendr account.
Is the desktop app free?
Installing it, converting and copying over USB are free. Sending to your Kindle by email uses your free delivery first. After that it needs the license or the monthly plan, and that includes the automatic sends from a watched folder.
What do I need for USB transfer?
Calibre or Kindle Previewer installed on the same computer, because the app uses one of them to make a file the Kindle opens. Your Kindle also has to show up as a drive when you plug it in. USB copies use one fixed page size rather than your model's.
The quickest answer is your own volume
Your first volume is free and you don't need a card. After that it's $29 once.
