How to Convert a Folder of JPEGs to a Manga EPUB
Pirat—er, legally downloaded a massive folder of unorganized `.jpg` images? Learn the fastest way to package them into a beautiful, readable ebook file.
You downloaded a fan translation or an old archive, and instead of a neat .cbz file, you got a massive folder called Volume_01 containing 200 files named 001.jpg, 002.png, etc.
If you drag this folder directly onto your Kindle, nothing will happen. If you drag it onto a Kobo, it might read them as individual photos in the gallery app, totally ruining the reading experience.
To read them properly, you must package these raw images into a structured ebook container (an EPUB). Here are the two ways to do it.
The Traditional Method: Zipper to KCC to Calibre
The old-school method involves manually building the container.
- Select all images in the folder.
- Right-click and choose Compress or Zip.
- Rename the resulting
Archive.ziptoVolume_01.cbz. (This is now a Comic Book Zip file). - Open KCC (Kindle Comic Converter).
- Drag the
.cbzfile in. Select your target device (e.g., Paperwhite). - Click Convert to generate the
.epub. - Open Calibre, import the
.epub, and manually add the metadata cover and author tags. - Send it via USB.
The biggest risk with this method: If the images were named poorly (page1.jpg, page2.jpg... page10.jpg), the computer's alphabetical sorting will read page10.jpg before page2.jpg. You will end up with a book that is completely out of order.
Furthermore, it takes 10 tedious minutes per folder.
The Modern Method: Drag and Drop with MangaSendr
We built MangaSendr to automate raw image processing. It completely eliminates the zip/convert/tag pipeline.
If you have a folder of raw images, you do not need to zip it. You do not need to convert it.
You just drag the entire Volume_01 folder directly into MangaSendr's Watched Directory.
Here is what happens in the background instantly:
- Smart Sorting: MangaSendr analyzes the files using natural sorting algorithms, ensuring
page10does not come beforepage2. - Image Optimization: It physically crops out any useless white margins on the raw jpegs and resizes them mathematically to your specific Kindle's pixel dimensions.
- Contrast Boost: It stretches the contrast of the raw scans so the ink looks pitch-black on your e-ink screen.
- Metadata Fetching: It looks at the folder name, queries AniList, downloads the official high-resolution cover artwork, and injects the Author and Synopsis tags.
- EPUB Packaging & Delivery: It securely packages the optimized images into a Kindle-native Fixed-Layout EPUB with Right-to-Left formatting, and emails it securely to your Amazon device.
The file that arrives on your device is perfect.
